Commodity Futures Trading Commission sued New Mexico on Friday to block its push to treat prediction market provider Kalshi as a gambling platform that should be regulated by the state.

It’s the eighth state that the CFTC has sued, in its ongoing effort to argue that all prediction market providers are offering derivatives products that need to be regulated at the federal level, rather than gambling products that would be overseen at the state level.

The complaint reads similarly to other filings the CFTC has made.

The various court cases are continuing their journeys through the legal system, with several appellate courts considering the matter as well.

It also makes for a market cap of $2.1 trillion, placing the company in sixth place in global market capitalization, just behind Amazon and just ahead of Taiwan Semiconductor.

Markets elsewhere were very quiet throughout the afternoon, with the Nasdaq ending the day higher by 0.3% and S&P 500 by 0.45%.

After a bit of early volatility, bitcoin (BTC) barely budged in afternoon hours, recently trading at $63,500, or flat over the past 24 hours.

On a week-over-week basis, bitcoin was lower by 0.5%.
