Solana speeds up blocks by 17%, but transaction capacity stays the same

Solana cut its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds earlier Friday, blockchain data shows, making the network’s clock run nearly 17% faster without producing an equivalent increase in total transaction capacity.

On Friday, the station cut the wait time between trains to 25 seconds from, say, 30 seconds.

A single train still carries the exact same number of people and the total number of people moving through the station per hour remains the same.

But the rush on the platform is eased and passengers get moving faster, preventing a bottleneck from forming at the gates.

By shrinking the time between blocks (the trains), transactions don’t sit around waiting in line.
